How to Set a Wallpaper on Windows
On Windows, right-click the downloaded image and choose Set as desktop background. If the image stretches, change the fit to Fill or Fit in Settings, Personalization, Background.
1. Download a desktop-sized image
Choose the Windows or 4K desktop download. A 1920×1080 file is enough for a 1080p monitor. A 3840×2160 file is the right match for a 4K monitor.
2. Right-click the file
In File Explorer, right-click the image and choose Set as desktop background. Windows applies it immediately.
3. Fix the fit if it looks stretched
Open Settings, Personalization, Background. Set the picture fit to Fill for full-bleed, Fit to show the whole image with bars, or Span if you use more than one monitor.
Questions
Should I download 4K for a 1080p monitor?
You can, and Windows will scale it down. A 1080p file looks the same on a 1080p screen and uses less disk space. Use 4K when the monitor is 4K.
How do I set different wallpapers on two monitors?
In Settings, Personalization, Background, right-click a picture and assign it to a specific monitor. Span uses one wide image across all screens.
