Live Wallpapers vs Still Wallpapers
A still wallpaper is a single image and works on every phone and desktop. A live wallpaper is a short looping video. It needs a live-wallpaper setting on Android, a third-party tool on iPhone, or an app such as Wallpaper Engine on Windows.
1. Pick still when you want it everywhere
A JPEG or PNG sets from Photos, Gallery, Windows, and macOS with no extra app.
2. Pick live when the motion is the point
Download the video file from a live wallpaper page. Android can apply it from the wallpaper picker. iPhone needs a live-wallpaper app or a Shortcut. Windows needs a tool that plays video on the desktop.
3. Watch the battery
A moving lock screen uses more power than a still image. If battery matters, keep the live file on the home screen only, or use a still image.
Questions
Will a live wallpaper work on iPhone by default?
iOS does not set an arbitrary video as the wallpaper from Photos. You need a live-wallpaper app or Shortcuts. Android and desktop tools are more direct.
Is a GIF the same as a live wallpaper?
A GIF is a looping animation in an image file. Some phones treat it as a live wallpaper, and some only show the first frame. A video file is the more reliable live download.
